Outdoor Activities in Bali That Can Excite You

You’ve finally decided to book that ticket and come to Bali! Whether you are planning to stay only for a few weeks, a few months or for the long-term, moving to a brand new location in another part of the world is always exciting. There’s so much to look forward to, new friends to make and thrilling activities to try.

Here in South Bali, you’ll never run out of things to do. This is especially true in Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud and Sanur. Now that the tourists are back, the streets are alive again and thriving! Restaurants, bars and clubs are running at full capacity, great shopping, and for those who prefer physical activities, yoga, watersports and surfing lessons to enjoy.

Cultural activities are also available, such as temple and waterfall excursions and Balinese dance shows and performances. Let’s take a look at some exciting outdoor activities that you can do while you’re in Bali.

1. Enroll in a yoga class

You can’t be in Bali without trying out a yoga class or two! Yoga engages with the mind, body and spirit, keeping those who practice it fit and healthy. Practising yoga can help anyone achieve inner calm while developing a healthy and mindful lifestyle. There are loads of yoga classes everywhere in Bali – whether you choose to stay in Canggu, Sanur, Seminyak or Ubud.

2. Go surfing

South Bali is a world-famous surfing destination. So renowned are Uluwatu, Padang-Padang and Balangan Beach that they attract the biggest international names in surfing. International competitions are also often held here throughout the year with the biggest brands as title sponsors. If you’re a beginner, worry not – you can always go for surfing lessons on Kuta Beach before trying out the waves in Uluwatu!

3. Go On A Temple Tour

There’s nothing quite as fascinating as Bali’s beautiful temples. These ancient places of worship date back centuries, with stunning architecture and fascinating backstories. Book yourself a temple tour with a guide who could give you interesting facts and insights about the temples you visit.

Bali’s most famous temples would include Pura Luhur Lempuyang – where you can find the famous ‘Gates of Heaven’; Pura Besakih – also known as the Mother Temple; Pura Tanah Lot – famous for the sacred snakes; Pura Luhur Uluwatu – a breathtaking location on a clifftop with resident monkeys and the world-famous kecak dance.  Please remember to dress appropriately and behave respectfully at these places of worship.

4. Explore Bali’s Waterfalls

Bali is not only about stunning sunsets and sandy beaches. The island is filled with magical waterfalls that will take your breath away. Many of them are located in central Bali in Ubud, Gianyar and Bangli, and also to the north of the island near Munduk and Singaraja.

One that is easily accessible via bike or scooter is Tegenungan waterfall. It’s located in Sukawati, Gianyar and is great for beginners and families. Once parked, you can easily get to the waterfall by walking down a set of well-made concrete stairs. Other famous waterfalls to try visit would be Goa Rang Reng, Kanto Lampo, Gitgit, Sekumpul, Nungnung, Tibumana and Tukad Cepung.

Do bear in mind that many of these waterfalls aren’t easy to get to and would require quite a trek down a few hundred steps or a hike down a dirt trail.

5. Visit Nusa Penida, Lembongan and Ceningan

Bali’s sister islands, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are some of the most beautiful places on planet earth, with majestic, jaw-dropping natural surroundings and incredible marine life unique to this part of the world. The three islands are easily accessible by yacht or fastboat – just a quick 30-minute ride from Sanur harbour and you’re there.

Get ready for adventure and explore some of the most iconic sites including Kelingking Beach, Diamond Beach, Rumah Pohon Treehouse, Angel’s Billabong, and jump off the cliff at Blue Lagoon. You can also rent a scooter and drive down the iconic yellow bridge and explore Nusa Ceningan!
